What is File Scrubr?

File Scrubr is a free online tool for editing and deleting file metadata. All processing happens client-side in the browser. Developed by montanadigital.dev.

Privacy

There is no server-side processing and no analytics. You can confirm this in DevTools → Network while you scrub a file: no file bytes leave the page.

What can File Scrubr do?

• JPEG, PNG — read, delete, and edit common tags. JPEG orientation is kept so photos do not rotate.
• WebP, GIF — read and delete metadata. Edit is not offered.
• SVG — strip editor metadata, comments, and hidden layers; edit title and description.
• MP3, WAV — read, delete, and edit common tags.
• M4A, FLAC — read and delete; edit is not offered in this version.
• DOCX, XLSX, PPTX — read and delete Office properties; edit title, author, and related fields.
• CSV — inspect BOM, delimiter, and headers; delete strips a UTF-8 BOM only.
• PDF — read, delete, and edit the Info dictionary.
• HEIC — view tags when the browser can parse them. Rewriting is not supported; export JPEG first.
• .doc, .xls, .ppt — not supported. Save as .docx, .xlsx, or .pptx and drop again.

Limits

One file at a time. 50 MB maximum (20 MB on devices with under 4 GB of RAM). Password-protected and damaged files cannot be opened. Delete removes what this app can reach; a warning is shown if some tags remain.
